Federal Foundation for Baukultur

The Act establishing a "Federal Foundation for Baukultur" entered into force on 22 December 2006. The foundation, which is based in Potsdam, commenced its activities on 1 March 2008. The Federal Foundation is an independent and active platform for all issues relating to architecture and Baukultur (improving the quality of the built environment). Its creation was strongly supported by the planning associations. Through their delegated members, the associations take part in the so-called Baukultur Convention, which is an assembly of all key players of the building and planning community in Germany, to be organized at regular intervals by the foundation.

Every two years, the Convention takes stock of the current situation of Baukultur in Germany, honours special achievements and points out where action needs to be taken to shape our physical and built environment. The last Baukultur Convention was held in Hamburg on 17 and 18 June 2012 with the title of "STATTVERKEHRSTADT" and placed Baukultur in transport infrastructure at the centre of the discussion. The Convention in Hamburg brought together about 350 acknowledged experts in the field as well as numerous guests who are involved in different areas of Baukultur. The core group of participants are important award winners in Baukultur in the last years at national level, expert planners and clients of prize-winning projects as well as the awarding institutions.

The members of the Convention elect the persons who will participate in the bodies of the foundation, the board of trustees and the advisory board.
