Ramsauer: Family to test Efficiency House Plus chosen

The Federal Minister of Building, Peter Ramsauer, today drew the name of the family to test the "Efficiency House Plus" in Berlin.

Ramsauer:

"The family to test our Efficiency House Plus has now been chosen. I am delighted that our call met with such great interest. In this house, our family of four can, starting in March 2012, combine sustainable living and driving with a high quality of life. The real-life field trials can then begin."

132 candidates had applied for the 15-month trial phase. An academically monitored selection procedure narrowed down the number of candidates to five families. These "finalists" were invited to today’s draw at the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development.

As part of research into building and electric mobility, the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development has had a single-family house constructed at Fasanenstrasse 87 in Berlin-Charlottenburg which produces twice as much energy as it consumes. This electricity is to be directly fed into electric vehicles on the premises. This inhabitable prototype will demonstrate how energy-efficient building and electric mobility can be combined in real-life conditions. The real-life trials will be conducted by a family of four for one year, with Audi, BMW, Daimler, Opel and VW providing electric vehicles for three months each.

The Federal Minister of Building, Peter Ramsauer, opened the Efficiency House Plus together with the Federal Chancellor on 7 December. The building can be visited by the public until the test family moves in.

It is open from 11.00 to 18.00 hrs Tuesday to Sunday until 29 February 2012.
