New EU Regulation prohibits certain items aboard aircraft
On 15 January 2004, the European Commission (EC) adopted a Regulation (EC 68/2004) which for the first time contains a list of items which must not be taken into the cabin of passenger aircraft and which are also prohibited in checked baggage. This list is applicable throughout the European Union (EU).
The Regulation entered into force on 1 February 2004. The prime objective of this Regulation is to clearly and unequivocally inform all passengers departing from an airport in the EU about the items which will be retained during security checks.
The list of prohibited items is not exhaustive since new items which are identified as being potentially dangerous may be added at any time. Moreover, the individual states of the EU have the right to prohibit further items at national level.
The list of prohibited items which is currently applicable to flights from Germany is available here.
