Tasks of Air Navigation Services
Air Navigation Services control and safeguard air traffic. Scheduled flights generally make up the majority of air traffic, but military air missions also use these services. Regardless of whether traffic levels are increasing or declining, safety always has the highest priority.

Oversight of Air Navigation Service Providers
In April 2004, the Single European Sky initiative (SES) was introduced per regulation by the European Commission. Most significantly, this regulation prescribes a functional separation of Air Navigation Service Providers and their oversight. While formerly both tasks were done by a single organisation, this is not the case any longer.
