An efficient transport system is the prerequisite of a modern society, of economic growth, employment and prosperity. European Union (EU) enlargement and the globalisation of commercial processes present environmentally-friendly mobility with challenges which can no longer be met by optimising transport sub-systems.

With its integrated transport policy, the Federal Government is therefore implementing a multi-disciplinary policy to optimise the overall system. Besides transport infrastructure funding framing, all other transport policy sectors, e.g. regulatory and innovation policy, will also be integrated into the overall system, which views all modes of transport as elementary components.
